‘Power Woman’ from Rotary Negombo set for 8th March with drawing over 5,000 Women

Women from 70 Rotary Clubs across the country to join International Women’s Day Mega Event at Negombo

Nearly 83 years old, one of the leading charity clubs in the country – Rotary Club of Negombo has planned to organize a Mega event tiled ‘Power Woman’ drawing over 5,000 both working and non-working women across the country to celebrate the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March 2020, at Avenra Garden Hotel complex in Negombo. The Power Woman is to be the Rotary Club of Negombo’s fund raiser and ticketed event as it will be graced by the current Mrs. World 2019 Mrs. Caroline Jurie with three prominent women speakers who will speak on women’s social, educational, political and psychological empowerment.

Hon. Kumudini Wickramasinghe – Judge of the Court of appeal in Sri Lanka and Gowri Rajan – Past District Governor of Rotary Sri Lanka and Ascharya Jayakody (The only Sri Lankan woman of BBC’s list of 100 inspiring and influential Women from around the world for 2019) will grace the Power Woman as Guests of Honor.

This year the 2020 International Women’s Day will focus on the theme, ‘An equal world is an enabled world’.

It offers an opportunity to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

The Mega event – ‘Power Woman’ will mainly focus towards the objective to recognize the working women and to empower them to play an important role in employment and in general in the society. The event is to connect the women professionals of different fields to inspire and to become effective allies to take action towards to include them in to our male dominated community in more meaningful manner.

The trade Fair planned at the Power Woman will also offer the opportunity for the small-scale self-employed women to showcase their products to the participants within the hotel premises in separate booths as a form of economic empowerment initiative.

While the Trade Fair will continue till midnight, the Rotary Club of Negombo has also planned to conduct a ‘Women’s Empowerment’ Seminar coupled with High tea in the Avenra Arena hall commencing at 3.00pm. The high tea and seminar will further attract over 1,000 professional women from all over country take parting in this most elegant event on the International Women’s Day.

The event is a full day program and will commence by 9.00am where the complex will also have a Trade Fair consist of leading brands and services which are exclusively catering to female demography and all other needs where women will be interested in patronizing and will be operating till dawn. All women’s associations of leading girl’s schools in the area and the Rotary District which consist of 70 Clubs Island wide will be taking part at the Power Woman 2020.
